Gaya de Medeiros est chorégraphe, danseuse, actrice et productrice née au Brésil en 1990.

Elle a étudié le cinéma d’animation à l’UFMG/BR. Dans le domaine des arts du spectacle, elle a étudié la danse classique et contemporaine ainsi que la dramaturgie. Elle a également étudié le théâtre physique et le butoh avec Denise Stoklos, Tadashi Endo, Roberta Carrieri, Cie Dos a Deux, entre autres.
Gaya a travaillé pendant 9 ans en tant que danseuse et co-créatrice à la Palácio das Artes Dance Company (2010-2019).
Elle a été directrice du mouvement pour les spectacles de théâtre « Ciclos » (2018), « Kolakeia » (2022) et pour le court métrage « Ouro Preto » (2018), primé au Reel Sisters Film Festival/NY.
Au Portugal, elle a travaillé comme danseuse/créatrice avec Gustavo Ciríaco (« Em deriva » 2021), Tiago Cadete (« Brasa » 2021), Sónia Baptista (« WOW » 2022), Victor Hugo Pontes (« Corpo Clandestino » 2022) et Olga Roriz (« A hora em que não íamos nada dos uns outros » 2023).
En tant que drag queen (Babaya), elle a été élue Miss Drag Lisboa 2019 et a atteint les demi-finales de Got Talent Portugal 2020.
Au théâtre, elle a collaboré avec Alex Cassal dans « Biblioteca do Fim do Mundo » (2022) et Daniel Gorjão dans « Tudo sobre a minha mãe » (2023).

Au cinéma, elle a joué dans le court métrage « Um caroço de abacate », réalisé par Ary Zara, dans lequel elle donne la réplique à Ivo Canelas. Le film a été primé au festival IndieLisboa, au festival Film Court (Fr) avec un prix du public, au AFI Fest Hollywood, et a reçu une mention honorable du jury pour la meilleure actrice principale, parmi d’autres prix. Il est nommé pour le meilleur court métrage aux Sophia Awards 2023.

En 2021, elle a créé « ATLAS da BOCA », en coproduction avec Olga Roriz Companhia de Dança et Espaço Alkantara, distingué par le journal Expresso comme l’un des meilleurs spectacles de 2021 et inclus dans le programme d’Aerowaves 2023 (Dublin). Il a également créé « BAqUE », en coproduction avec Espaço do Tempo, TBA et CCVF.  En 2023, elle a présenté au DDD la première de « Dad for Dinner », dont la première a eu lieu en novembre au festival Alkantara 2023.
Son spectacle « Atlas da Boca » a tourné dans plus de 14 pays entre 2023 et 2024.

Elle a également fondé BRABA, une plateforme qui vise à soutenir, permettre et financer des initiatives destinées à la communauté trans/non-binaire.

Born in Brazil (08.11.1990)

She studied Animated Film at UFMG/BR. In the performing arts, she studied classical and contemporary dance and dramaturgy. She also studied physical theater and butoh with Denise Stoklos, Tadashi Endo, Roberta Carrieri, Cie Dos a Deux, among others.

 Gaya worked for 9 years as a dancer and co-creator at the Palácio das Artes Dance Company (2010-2019). 

She was movement director for the theater shows « Ciclos » (2018), « Kolakeia » (2022) and for the short film « Ouro Preto » (2018), awarded at the Reel Sisters Film Festival/NY.

In the cinema, she starred in the short film « Um caroço de abacate », directed by Ary Zara, in which she played opposite Ivo Canelas. The film won awards at the IndieLisboa Festival, the Film Court Festival (Fr) with an audience award, the AFI Fest Holywood, and received an honorable mention from the jury for Best Leading Actress, among other awards. He was nominated for Best Short Film at the Sophia Awards 2023.

 In 2021 she created « ATLAS da BOCA », in co-production with Olga Roriz Companhia de Dança and Espaço Alkantara, distinguished by the Expresso newspaper as one of the best of 2021 and included in the program at Aerowaves 2023 (Dublin). He also created « BAqUE », in co-production with Espaço do Tempo, TBA and CCVF.  In 2023, she brought to DDD the premiere of « Dad for Dinner », which premiered in November at the Alkantara Festival 2023.

Her show « Atlas da Boca » toured in more than 14 countries between 2023 and 2024.

She also founded BRABA, a platform that aims to support, enable and finance initiatives aimed at the Trans/Non-binary community.
